Forums Tool

 

The forums tool provides projects with web-based discussion forums. This tool is used for group communication between the Computer Club Communications Software team.  Members can post, search, and browse messages in one of three forms including Open Discussion, Help, and Developers.

Open Discussion

This forum contains message postings that may or may not pertain to the project.  Here team members may freely chat about any interests or topics.

Help

This forum contains message postings that pertain to team member problems with the project or need for assistance in trouble shooting project problems.

Developers

This forum contains message postings that pertain to developer ideas and focus on project development.

               

How to use Forum options:

To open a forum page

Select the desired forum by clicking one of the blue highlighted text links

The view Forum page will open with the heading and contents of the selected forum

Users have the option to view posted messages in forums in either nested, flat, threaded or ultimate view and a desired amount per page.

To change to a different forum

Select either Open Discussion, Help, or Developer from the first drop down box

Click the change view button

To change to the way messages will be viewed

Select either Nest, Flat, Threaded, or Ultimate from the middle drop down box

Click the change view button

To change the amount of messages per page

 Select either show 25, 50,75, or 100 from the last drop down box

Click the change view button

You may use a combination of the three at the same time

 Select the desired preferences from the drop down boxes

 Click the change view button 

To post a new message

Enter a meaningful topic in the subject textbox

Enter meaningful statements in the message box

Click the post comment button to post the comment

Your message will be added to the top of the forum on the next open page

You may monitor forum by

Click the monitor forum icon

You may save your place in the message forum so new messages will be highlighted when you return by

Click the Save place icon with the pencil and paper

You switch over to administrator if you have granted access by 

Click the Admin icon

 

Tracker Tool

               

This tool is used to browse, edit, and add items to the tracking systems including bugs, support requests, patches and feature requests. Tracker is an integrated support management tool used to report bugs, submit support requests, submit patches, and a suggestion box where people can post feature requests.  Project members can post and respond to topics and are updates by email when tracker items have been changed to keep team members informed about project status problems and resolutions.  Project managers may find this very helpful in correction response time, and requests by classification. 

 

To browse edit or add items to the Bug Tracking System, Tech Support Tracking System, Patch Tracking System, or Featured Request Tracking System

Click the desired blue highlighted text link

Here a team member has the option to browse the desired Tracking System by selecting the desired information on tracking system using the drop-down boxes labeled

Assignee - This drop-box represents the project administrator to which a tracker item is assigned.

Status - This drop-down box represents the current status of a tracker item.

Category - This drop-down box represents the Category of the tracker items, which is a particular section of a project.

Select 'Any' for a broader result set.

Group - This drop-down box represents the Group of the tracker items, which is a list of project admin-defined options.

If you are a project admin you can click the '(admin)' link to define your own groups.

Sort By - The Sort By option allows you to determine how the browse results are sorted.
You can sort by ID, Priority, Summary, Open Date, Close Date, Submitter, or Assignee. You can also have the results sorted in Ascending or Descending order.

Click the browse button to view the tracing system’s results

Members also have the icon options to Submit New, Browse, Reporting, and Admin

Bugs, Support, and Patches Tools

                               

These three tools can be grouped together due to their identical interfaces Bugs, patches, and support have the text icon options submit new, browse, reporting, and admin.

Submit New – This options allows project members to submit a new bug, support, or patch to the team and management

To submit something new click the Submit new icon

Select the desired information in each of the three drop-down boxes labeled

Category - This drop-down box represents the Category of the tracker items, which is a particular section of a project.
Select 'Any' for a broader result set.

Group - This drop-down box represents the Group of the tracker items, which is a list of project admin-defined options.
If you are a project admin you can click the '(admin)' link to define your own groups.

Summary - The summary text-box represents a short tracker item summary. Useful when browsing through several tracker items.

Fill in a detailed description in the text box describing the bug, support, or patch. (DO NOT ENTER PASSWORD OR OTHER CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION!)

The comment text area allows you to attach a comment to a tracker item when a canned response isn't appropriate. You may add an upload and attached a file by

Selecting the browse button and selecting the desired file

Click the file and select open to attach, to cancel attachment select the cancel button.  You may only attach one file per submission

Enter a file description in the text box below File Description

Click the submit button to submit the bug, patch, or support

Reporting icon is part of the tracker reporting and is used by managers and administrators to review aging reports of the artifact types also known as Bugs, Featured Requests, Patches, and Support Request submitted by technician, category, group, and resolution.  To view these reports

Select the an artifact type from the drop-down box which includes Bugs, Featured Requests, Patches, or Support Requests

Select the type of aging report from the drop down box listing Distribution by Technician, Distribution by Category, Distribution by Group, or Distribution by Resolution.

Select the time period of the project by choosing a desired number from the drop-down box after for and the drop-down box ranging between last day and Project Lifespan.

Click the show button to review the desired results

A report listing the data will appear under the search menu on a new page

Lists Tool

This tool lets the admin to add and view mailing lists.

Tasks Tool

This Tool lets the admin to add a subproject.

Add A Subproject
Add a project, which can contain a set of tasks. This is different than creating a new task.
Update Information
Determine whether non-project-members can view Subprojects in the Project/Task Manager, update name and description

And also admin could report issues regarding the project.

Docs Tool

The Doc tool is a useful tool for managing project documents.  It works as a document manager that posts any documents meant for project use.  To ensure quality of the documents, the administrator must approve the document before team developers and members display postings.

The document manager has two icon options besides admin.  They are submitting new documentation and view documentation.  

To submit new documentation

Click the submit new documentation blue highlighted text icon

File in the two text boxes labeled

Document Title: Refers to the relatively brief title of the document (e.g. How to use the download server)

Description: A brief description to be placed just under the title.

Click the option box Upload Text File if Web-based file upload has been     temporarily disabled; please monitor the Site Status page for updates

Select the language using the drop-down box next to language that you wish to use

Paste Document in html format if web-based file upload has been temporarily disabled

Select the group the document belongs to using the drop down box next to the heading

Click submit Information button to submit document for review

 

To view documentation

Click the icon labeled view documentation to view all project documentation approved for viewing

 

Surveys Tool

This page lets the admin to accomplish below tasks.

Add Surveys
Edit Existing Surveys
Add Questions
Edit Existing Questions
Show Survey Results

 

News Tool

Admin can post news about the project and all posts will appear on the project  summary page.

 

Files Tool

 

This tool helps to release files as open source. Only the Admin can do editing and releasing files from Edit/Release files section via Admin tool.  A complete introduction and instructions for using these pages is available in our Guide to the File Release System (FRS).
